The Family Plan 2 Review: Everything You Need to Know Before Watching

Mark Wahlberg and Family Go Global: Everything You Need to Know About The Family Plan 2

The Morgan family is back, and this time, the suburban action-comedy is going international. Following the massive streaming success of the 2023 original, The Family Plan 2 reunites the core cast for a festive European vacation that quickly devolves into another chaotic encounter with former assassin Dan Morgan’s past.

The sequel, an Apple Original Film, is set to deliver more high-octane action, combined with the signature family squabbles that made the first movie a hit. Get ready for a Christmas holiday unlike any other when the film premieres globally on November 21, 2025, exclusively on Apple TV+.

Dan Morgan’s Past Haunts Him Across Europe

The first film saw Dan Morgan (Mark Wahlberg) forced to take his unsuspecting wife, Jessica (Michelle Monaghan), and kids on a desperate cross-country road trip to escape enemies from his life as an elite government assassin. In the sequel, the action shifts to a holiday setting overseas.

A European Christmas with a Deadly Twist

In The Family Plan 2, Dan plans a perfect Christmas vacation to Europe. The plan is initially a trip to London after his daughter, Nina (Zoe Colletti), who is studying there, announces she will not be coming home for the holidays.

However, the idyllic European scenery of London and Paris becomes the backdrop for an international game of cat-and-mouse when a new, formidable figure from Dan’s covert past surfaces with unfinished business. The family must navigate their way through bank heists, holiday hijinks, and frantic car chases, battling and bonding along the way.

The stakes are higher this time as the family is forced to fight for survival far from the safety of their suburban home, showcasing new action set pieces, including a fight on a moving London tour bus and a car chase through the streets of Montmartre in Paris.

The Family Plan 2: Cast and Returning Team

The sequel sees the return of the central Morgan family unit, along with the director and writer responsible for the original’s success.

The Returning and New Faces

Leading the ensemble once again is Mark Wahlberg as Dan Morgan, the devoted husband and former assassin, and Michelle Monaghan as his wife, Jessica Morgan. Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby also reprise their roles as children Nina and Kyle Morgan.

The sequel introduces a major new player in the form of an antagonist from Dan’s past:

  • Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) joins the cast as the mysterious Aidan, the primary “gnarly baddie” with an unsettled score with Dan.

  • Reda Elazouar steps in as Omar, Nina’s new boyfriend, whose arrival complicates the family dynamic just as danger closes in.

Director Simon Cellan Jones and writer David Coggeshall also return, ensuring continuity in the film’s blend of family comedy and action choreography. Jones noted his excitement to get “the family back together” for the European follow-up.

The Sequel’s Success is Already in the Plans

The decision to greenlight a sequel was driven by the original film’s unprecedented performance on its streaming platform.

A Streaming Sensation

The original The Family Plan (2023) became Apple TV+’s most-viewed movie at the time of its release, indicating a strong appetite from global audiences for the unique mix of domestic life and espionage action.

Michelle Monaghan, speaking about the new chapter, commented that the sequel is “as action-packed, fun and heartwarming as the original,” but is elevated by the magical backdrop of Europe during the holidays. Wahlberg also mentioned that the film taps into the relatable dynamics of parenthood, even adding a detective-like layer to his own family holidays in real life.

The Family Plan 2 aims to capitalize on the original’s success by taking the established characters into a grander, more perilous international adventure, solidifying the action-comedy as a must-watch event for the 2025 holiday season.
