On Christmas Eve, TSA agent Ethan Kopek finds himself in a dire situation when a mysterious Traveler coerces him into allowing a suitcase to pass through security. If he refuses, the Traveler threatens the life of Ethan’s pregnant girlfriend, Nora, who also works at LAX. Inside the suitcase is Novichok, a lethal nerve agent set to detonate on a flight to Washington, D.C. When Ethan tries to seek help from a senior agent, the Traveler eliminates him, making it clear that he means business.
After the suitcase is cleared, Ethan has Mateo, the Traveler’s accomplice, flagged for a bag check. The Traveler then activates the bomb, forcing Ethan to rush to disarm it. Following orders, Mateo kills Ethan’s boss, Sarkowski. Ethan discovers that Mateo is also a victim, as the Traveler and his sniper, The Watcher, are holding Mateo’s husband, Jesse, captive. The Traveler guides Ethan on how to disarm the explosive. As they attempt to move Sarkowski’s body, Mateo is ordered to eliminate Ethan. He tries but ends up firing too many rounds from his plastic gun, causing it to overheat and explode, killing him instead.
The Traveler then sends The Watcher after Nora, but Jesse manages to free himself and kills The Watcher. Ethan learns that the bomb is intended for Congresswoman Grace Turner, who had previously lobbied for a bill favoring private contractors. The Traveler’s plan is to frame the attack as retaliation from the Russians after he murdered two mobsters, hoping the explosion would ensure the bill’s passage. As Nora persuades LAPD Detective Elena Cole to allow the plane to take off, Ethan sneaks into the cargo hold. He successfully disarms the bomb and confronts The Traveler, ultimately trapping him in a vacuum-sealed fridge with the nerve agent, leading to his demise.
